Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose-A Statesman of Subcontinent

Subhas Chandra Bose

Few months after the end of the 2nd world war Indian sailors of the Royal Indian Navy protested against the substandard foods, Poor facilities & discriminatory behaviors of British officers at castle Barracks in mint road Bombay that in the matter of few days turned into a revolt that spread to other ports including Karachi. Now, these revolted sailors refused to follow the orders of their British officers & Ships of these mutineers hoisting the flags of congress, Muslim league & Indian communist party instead of British Raj even these sailors took out a procession in Bombay holdings portraits of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who wasn’t their leader in person rather a leader of the Indian national army fighting against British imperialism.

These rebellious sailors took control of the armory in Bombay at Butcher Island where ammunition of Bombay presidency was kept. Incidents of British men & women forcefully got them out from their cars & asked to raise slogans of Jai Hind happened. These mutineers also got support from the Royal Indian air force both from Bombay & Karachi as they refused to open fires on these rebellions.

On the other hand, the Indian congress & the Muslim league officially condemned these sailors & showed no support besides the Indian communist party. Even Sardar Patel went to discuss with these sailors for settlement of the mutiny & end of the strike & after the assurance that there wouldn’t be any arrest, court-martial, or expulsion of services

Vallabhbhai Patel

as a result, these mutineers surrendered but despite all these assurances sailors were arrested, charges of the court-martial were labeled against them & some were dismissed from services. Though that revolt was initially a peaceful protest & those sailors belonging to different religions wanted to bring their genuine issues into the consideration of higher authorities but it took a violent path later. These mutineers were in great trouble as there was no political support as both Indian Congress & the Muslim League refused to support them & wanted to end that strike immediately

At that time both congress & the Muslim league had realized that independence was not far away so indulging in violent activities with British Raj was injurious for all the stakeholders & would damage the cause of both parties. The was a matter of great concern for the British establishment as these Mutineers were influenced by the ideology of Subhas Chandra Bose who was the biggest trouble maker of that time for the British Raj. As Netaji Bose had already developed a bad reputation of a rebellious & a nationalist who only believed in results at any cost & despite qualifying for civil service in British Rule He refused to work for British Raj which made him unique & famous in India.

After joining active politics by Indian national congress he expressed his disagreement & conflict with Mr. Gandhi mainly because of his violent ideology that was creating problem both for the Indian congress & British Raj. On the other hand, Subhas Babu was gaining popularity among the masses because his stance was appealing & represented their true sentiments

Akhand Bharat

When the 2nd world war was evident Subhas Babu shared his scheme with Mr. Gandhi since the war was just around the corner why not We (Indian) strike an armed struggle against British Raj & kick them out from the subcontinent as they would be quite vulnerable during the war. Mr. Gandhi flat out rejected that idea & stuck to his stance of non-violent struggle. That was the point where both Leaders parted their ways Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose resigned from Indian National Congress.

political views Subhas Chandra Bose

After detaching himself from Congress was a great turning point in his struggle as British Raj oppressed him with her full force & sent him prisons many times due to his aggressive stance & kept him an eagle eye on his activities Despite having ideological difference with Indian Congress he never made his difference with the congress public. During that period, he realized that these Babu-type activities (negotiations with British Rulers & only indulge in political activities) that both Indian Congress & Muslim League were doing wouldn’t create any substantial impact on British Raj. Over the years he might have developed the impression that Since East India Company conquered India after Wars hence to snatch Independence back from them, Indians must also fight with that oppressive regime. So he wanted to create a grand public outrage through unstable law & order situation for that imperialistic British machinery along with an armed & organized agitation that leaves British Raj no option besides leaving India

After resigning from Congress Netaji was under the strict surveillance of British intelligence. As he was a leader of great vision & knew Enemy’s enemy is our friend so by sitting at home would lose. That great opportunity which the 2nd world war brought for Indians so to capitalize it he managed to escape from India. To form a Global alliance so that Indian could acquire financial, political & militarily support & mount pressure on British imperialism in doing so Netaji first went to Russia where He met Joseph Stalin who helped him entering Germany to meet Adolf Hitler to whom Nataji shared his plan as how could an armed public agitation create against British Raj & get India freed that Adolf Hitler liked & gave Netaji refuge in Germany. The first thing Netaji did was to get all Indian prisoners of War freed from Hitler’s prisons who were fighting for British India & caught by the Nazi Army during the 2nd world war. He also started to assemble all the Indians around the world & in a very short period, he managed to gather 55 thousand soldiers in the Indian National Army whose mission was Guerrilla warfare, infantry, special operations against British Imperialism with the Motto of Unity, Faith & Sacrifice.

Since Germany was far way from India so Netaji reached out to Japan to acquire help. Japanese welcome him & gave him full support Japan planned to invade the British India from Myanmar. But that plan couldn’t be executed because Japan didn’t find a militarily opportune situation where they could make a big impact on the British force in India whereas Netaji Indian national army didn’t have enough strength to indulge in a full-scale war with British India. In 1944 Netaji went back to Myanmar & in the city of Rangoon He addressed the Azad Hind Army in which he said instead of unorganized effort we need to do concerted efforts & encouraged freedom fighters No matter what happened We must continue to fight with the British Raj. On the same occasion, he gave his most famous slogan to all Indians (Tum mujhe khoon do main tumhe azadi dunga) you! Give me blood I will set you free

Axis Powers World War 2

In the midst of all of that British establishment realized that in case there would be a full-fledge mutiny it would almost impossible to endure it even if the British came up with all force. Since there was a world war going on in which Britain & her alliance was winning but after the war, Britain's Army would be fatigued & morally declined & in any case not be in a position to face such armed revolt. Hence British Raj announced leaving India soon.

In 1945 Hitler’s suicide news was surfaced & Nazi Army surrendered & conceded its defeat to Allied forces & in the same year America dropped atomic bombs on Japan which devastated it. all the while Netaji was in Singapore & in a week he went to Thailand where his meeting with scheduled with Japanese’s official that made him disappointed & demoralized. after that, he flew to Vietnam where Netaji took the Japanese Airplane to start his journey to Tokyo next day his airplane was reached Taiwan. but when Netaji’s plane took off from Taiwan’s airport his plane got some technical problem & badly crashed in which He died.

The news of Netaji’s death spread but somehow Britain couldn’t believe that Netaji plane crashed & he died in it & Britain Establishment thought Netaji again went underground that was a matter of their grave concerned Because Netaji had developed an image of disguising himself artfully without a trace that he already displayed perfectly when he escaped from India. Hence Britain started to scrutinize the mystery of Netaji’s death but couldn’t get any substantial evidence that confirms his death. On the arrest of one Major general of the Indian National Army, it was revealed that Netaji was planned to go to China & from there he would go to Russia.

joseph stalin

it was more plausible because it didn’t matter in the 2nd world war, Russia was allied with America & Britain but it wasn’t a natural alliance as there was a huge difference of cultural & political values between them & they don’t share common historical & cultural traditions & more importantly they follow two different economic systems. It was a common security challenge that compelled them to join together their resources to deal with that challenge & formed a strategic partnership. Both Russia & America were very well aware that after the war Russia would be America's enemy number one So Joseph Stalin certainly wanted to gain all those means which could weaken the USA & its natural allies. Therefore, it was from a political & military perspective most favorable for Russia to refuge Netaji & whenever there would be any need to utilize him in Russia’s favor. Anyways British Raj was finally over & India & Pakistan came into existence.

In 1950 one person named Bhanwanji also known as Gumnami Baba entered India via Nepal & first he went to Lucknow from there moved to different cities of Uttar Pradesh. The peculiar thing that made him unique from others was during all his life he lived incognito & never met strangers in person. All the visitors had to talk to him from the other side of the curtain as his face was hidden only selected people were allowed to meet him in person. He changed his residence multiple times during his stay in Uttar Pradesh to avoid people's unwanted attention. Gumnami Baba died in 1985 & his belongings sent to the district treasury in 26 wooden boxes details of items reported in newspapers there were English, Hindi & Bengali books, national & international magazines, letters of very important political leaders along with former Indian National Army officers, Some Subash Babu family member letters & Photographs were also recovered.

As most of Gumnami Baba's admirers & followers confirmed that he was none other than Subash Babu himself due to his stark similarities from physical characteristics to personality traits are all identical to Netaji Bose. Anyway, whether Gumnami Baba was Netaji Bose OR not it would have remained the greatest mystery  of Indian political history

But that Hindu Bengali man was truly a great leader, a visionary, an enigmatic, charismatic character & a statesman of subcontinent whose purpose of living was to set his fellow countrymen free from that vicious slavery of British at any cost, an equal right of living freely should be given to all Indian people irrespective of their religion, caste, creed & racial background. Netaji genuinely believed in inclusivity & growth of every strata of society his integrity, steadfastness & incredible high standard of behavior & personal morality set him apart from others & in the dark alley of hopelessness made him a beacon of inspiration to millions of people of his time & long after his death. Netaji's intention was evident through his actions since he was forthright toward his stance & a true voice of masses that made great numbers of people attracted to him who were not only supported his ideology but also ready to lay down their lives for the cause.

Netaji bose & axis powers

That the reason why towering figures like Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel & Maulana Azad could not even touch half of his stature when it came to popularity in masses. In every sense of words, Netaji was the citadel of strength, a man of words, a secular & progressive person who didn’t have any ulterior motive besides freedom of south Asia. However, it is so ridiculous to see these days BJP Andh Bhakt (Blind Followers) praising Netaji’s struggles like never before with the sole motive of putting Mr Gandhi in bad lights & gaining political mileage over the Indian national congress. Indeed Netaji was a devoted Hindu but all through his life you couldn’t find any communal angle in his endeavors & evidence of it was a huge number of Indians belonging to different religions & cast were gathered & struggled in his leadership against the colonial power.

There is that false propagation is spread if Netaji Bose remained head of the Indian congress Mr. Jinnah would quit his struggle of Pakistan independence. There is no truth in the claim though Mr. Jinnah was never against Netaji Bose Or Mr. Gandhi, He was only against that particular mind-set that is currently ruling India. However, Netaji could have been able to converge more Muslim people on his movement because there was NO trust deficit with him & indeed No other Hindu leader was more receptive among Muslims than Subhas Babu. That was Netaji's Greatness he equally attracted to all religions on subcontinent &  that represented in his Indian national Army soldiers & officers belonging to different religions

Now here is the testimony from the horse's mouth what impact Netaji created in the struggle for independence. In 1947 Clement Attlee was the PM of Britain at the time of India’s independence. When he came back to India in 1956 during his visit he spent two days in the governor’s palace at Calcutta where Mr. Attlee had a detailed discussion with PB Chakraborty who was at that time the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court & also serving as the acting Governor of West Bengal. During the discussion, Mr.Chakarborty asked Mr. Attlee what were the real causes that compelled Britain to leave India on which Clement Attlee responded that the leading factor was the deterioration of loyalty to the British crown among the Indian Army and Navy personnel because of the military activities of Netaji Bose

Clement Attlee

Governor Chakraborty asked another question What was the Gandhi Ji influenced upon the British rulers to quit India on which Mr. Attlee responded “Minimal” No matter how significantly Netaji played his part in asserting British Raj to leave India but by no means efforts of Mr. Gandhi & Mr. Jinnah could be discredited because both the leaders served their nations to the best of their abilities. Anyway if people of the subcontinent may forget to appreciate & celebrate Netaji’s struggle & unrecognized his contributions to the freedom of India but this land would never forget once she produced a statesman whose heart throbbed for his people & who was passionate to get them freedom & more importantly the one
